第二部分 阅读理解(共两大题,满分40 分)

三、阅读理解(共15小题,每小题2分,共30分)

阅读下列短文,从每小题所给的ABCD四个选项中选出一个最佳选项。

A

I’ve always found comfort in food. Every Friday, my family would get together for a pizza. Before dance class, I always ordered a sandwich. When I felt sad, an ice cream could solve everything.

The first time I thought about my weight was when I was 11 at a summer camp. As I looked at other girls, I could see their flat stomach. When I returned, I started to question my appearance. That’s when I started hating my body.

My worry was a nagging voice in my headEvery time someone said something about my body, that voice grew louder. And because I didn’t want to give anyone the chance to judge me, I hid myself away. I stopped going out with my friends and instead spent weekends in bed, feeling weak and tired out.

When I badly needed something good in my life, I was picked for the school lacrosse (曲棍球) team. My coach found a talent in me.

I had viewed my body as a problem. But the way my coach talked about the power in my muscles made me want to believe in myself. The more strength I had in my legs, the more stable (稳固的) I’d be when attackers tried to attack me. The more muscles in my shoulders, the harder I could drive toward the goal.

Every part of my body had a purpose, even the parts I hated. My coach focused my attention on improving the power I already had and so I started to believe that what I had was pretty great.

But I didn't feel like an outstanding player on the team. I was just another girl working toward a goal with my teammates

CShe would become a famous star. DShe had lots of muscles but no brains.

35What does the story want to tell us?

ASuccess is built on failure BEverybody is unique in the world.

CLittle people can make big success. DWe need to pay attention to health problems.

If you move to a new school, you’ll have to worry whether or not you’ll make friends. Here are some simple suggestions which help you make new friends a lot easier.

Try speaking to the people next to you in class. As they're close by, it does good to communicate with them first.

Have courage to speak to everyone in your class. You will probably stay with that class through your years at the new school, so it helps if you get on with them.

If you don’t have many friends in your class, try and make new friends in your subject lessons. You can also talk with them at lunchtime and after school.

Join a lunchtime or afterschool club. You’ll get to meet kids of all years that way.

Ask your teacher to pair you with another pupil.

Use your celebrity status! Since you’re the new person, you’ll have gained celebrity status, which you can use for a couple of weeks. Talk to people, remember to smile and always be open and friendly. Listen carefully to what others have to say so as to make them feel important.

As you grow older, it’s natural to make new friends and sometimes that means you grow apart from your old friends. So try and make time for all your friends. Why not introduce your different sets of friends so you can all go to the cinema or bowling together?

But what if a friendship group is pushing you out? If this is happening to you, try and ask someone you’re friendly with what is happening. If the whole group is leaving you out, try to find new people to spend time with lunchtime.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder. It affects the ability to recognize(认出) words, and for some readers to understand what they have read. Experts say dyslexia affects about five to ten percent of the population of the United States. Researchers have long known that people with dyslexia write or read words and letters backwards in the wrong order

But a new study shows that people with dyslexia may have trouble redirecting their attention between senses, from seeing something to hearing something. The study suggests something that might help dyslexic people learn more quickly—play video games. Vanessa Harrar of Britain's University of Oxford led the study. She reported the findings in the journal Current Biology. The study suggests that dyslexic people may have trouble moving quickly from what they read to what they hear

In the study, Doctor Harrar tested 17 people with dyslexia, and 19 others without reading problems. The volunteers were asked to push a button as quickly as possible when they heard a sound, saw a light or experienced both together. Doctor Harrar compared the speed of their reactions(反应)She found that people with dyslexia were just as fast as the others when they saw only a picture or heard only a sound. But the Dyslexics had a slower reaction time when they heard a sound and saw a picture at the same time

Doctor Harrar feels like playing video games could help dyslexic people shift from seeing to hearing more quicklyShe adds that images(图像) in video games force the eyes to move and focus quickly

The study also shows that dyslexic people have the most difficulty going between what they saw and what they heardThis may have an effect on how dyslexic children are taught how to read. When children learn the alphabet(字母表), they usually see the letter first and then hear the sound, or they see and hear the letter at the same time. The study shows that Dyslexics might learn more quickly if they hear the sound of a letter or word first before seeing it.

41Dyslexia may influence a person’s _________.

Asocial skills Blearning ability Creading interest Dsense of happiness

42What can we learn about people with dyslexia?

AThey react more slowly to a single picture or sound.

BThey learn more quickly when seeing a word first before hearing it

CThey have difficulty in moving attention between seeing and hearing.

DThey react more quickly to sound and picture together.

43. How does the author suggest Dyslexics are taught based on the research finding?

ABy putting hearing before seeing BBy training the attention on games

CBy seeing first and then hearing later DBy moving the eyes around the screen

44. What can be the best title of the passage?

AVideo Games Can Train the Attention System.

BDyslexia Affects Attention between Senses

CVideo Games Might Help Dyslexics

DDyslexics Might Learn Better through Sound.

Do you know how to pick a good book you’ll really like? Here are some tips.

Start With Your Interest 46 . You can pick something that you love to read, not for school. They can be ancient martial arts, computers, or fashion design. You name it, there are books about it.

What’s Your Type? Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction (or both)? Fiction books, like novels, can take you to another world or help you imagine something beyond your own experience. Nonfiction books give you the who, what, when, and why of something 47 Many of them are interesting to read like novels from start to finish.

48 . The reviews and quotes(引用,引述)on the back and inside covers of many books give you an idea of what the book is about. They can also help you pick future books, too. If you find a book you really like, take a minute to read the description and see which authors praised the book. Often, they’ll have similar styles and you might find books you like by those authors, too.

Find a Family Favorite. Which book did your mother love best when she was at your age? 49 .

Find out and give them a read — then you can share your thoughts about the book.

Finally, you’ll probably enjoy what you’re reading a lot more if you find a quiet place and make time for the book. 50 . You can put on some good music, get yourself some tea and let yourself be carried away by the book. You’ll see that time does fly when you’re reading something you love!

ARead the description.

BHow about your brothers and sisters?

CReading is a good way to improve your English

DReading on your own isn’t like reading for school.

EMost reading is best enjoyed when you can concentrate (全神贯注) on it.

FSo you should read as much as possible when you are free.

GThey tell stories using facts — but that doesn’t mean they’re boring.
