ThemostcommonsurnamesinChinalastyearwereWangandLi，witheachnameusedbymorethan100millionpeople，accordingtoananalysisofstatisticsfromthecountry’spopulationinformationsystem.
Zhang，Liu，Chen，Yang，Huang，Zhao，WuandZhouroundedoutthetoptensurnames，accordingtothereportpublishedbytheMinistryofPublicSecurity.
Thestatisticsrevealedthattherewere6，150surnamesinuseacrossmainlandChinalastyearand23hadmorethan10millionusers，reportedChinesemediaChina.org.cn.
Italsostatedthatalmost85percentofChina’s1.4billionpopulationusetraditionalsurnameslistedintheBaijiaxing（TheHundredFamilySurnames）.ComposedintheearlySongDynasty（960-1279AD），theancientChinesetextactuallycontained411surnamesbeforebeinglaterexpandedto504.
WhileitiscommonforChinesewomentokeeptheirownsurnameaftermarriageandchildrentocarrytheirfather’sfamilyname，therehasbeenanincreaseinthenumberofpeoplehavingbothparent’ssurnamesintheirnamesoverthepast30years.Accordingtothereport，thefigurehasjumpedfrom118，000in1990to1.1millionattheendof2018.
InChinatherearenofixedlistsoffirstnames.Instead，parentscanchoosepracticallyfromallthewordsintheChinesevocabulary，providingthewordshavepositiveconnotations.Chinesefirstnamesusuallyconsistofoneortwocharacters.
根据中国人口信息系统的一项统计分析，去年中国最常见的姓氏是王姓和李姓，各有1亿多人使用。
根据中国公安部公布的报告，排在前十位的姓氏还有张、刘、陈、杨、黄、赵、吴、周。据中国媒体China.org.cn网的报道，去年中国大陆在使用的姓氏共有6150个，其中有23个姓氏的使用者超过1000万。
报告还指出，在中国14亿人口中，近85%的人使用的是《百家姓》中列出的传统姓氏。这本中国古代作品成文于北宋（公元960-1279年）初期，实际上包含411个姓氏，后来增補到504个。
